Florence County

Florence County is located in the northeastern quadrant of the state of South Carolina in the coastal plain physiographic region. The county’s eastern boundary is the Great Pee Dee River, a system whose drainage basin consists of some 8,830 square miles within North Carolina and South Carolina. At its eastern point, Florence County is less than 50 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean.  Interstates 20 and 95 run directly into the city of Florence.

Florence County’s strong and diverse economy is the key to the quality of life enjoyed by our citizens. As the hub of retail trade, services and healthcare for a regional population base in excess of 500,000, Florence County enjoys assets well beyond those found in most tertiary metropolitan markets in the United States. Nonetheless, we have maintained a small town charm. In short, Florence County offers Global Reach... With a Southern Touch.

The local area provides a variety of entertainment options. The 10,000 seat 29,000 square feet Florence City-County Civic Center has hosted a variety of events since its opening on August 4, 1993. Florence County is also among the smallest markets in the country that supports a full-time symphony orchestra.

Florence County’s seven country clubs are recognized as having some of the best golfing facilities in South Carolina. There are also several public parks around the county including the newly renovated Lynches River County Park with its towering cypress trees, boardwalk, climbing wall and canoe launch. The canoe launch at Lynches River County Park is one of the few in the nation which is handicapped accessible. Other public parks include historic Timrod Park in the center of the City of Florence and the state-of-the-art Freedom Florence Complex. Freedom Florence consists of a five-field softball center, a four-field youth baseball complex, a four-field football-soccer complex, a gymnastics facility, picnic shelters with outdoor grills, and a small lake for fishing, all surrounded by walking, jogging, and biking trails.
