On Monday, June 30, Dillon County will be celebrating a new tool in its economic development repertoire as the Dillon County Spec Building, constructed by Marlboro Electric Cooperative, will officially be open for business.

The 50,000 square foot building was competed in partnership with Marlboro Electric Cooperative, Marlboro Development Team, Dillon County Economic Development Partnership and Dillon County and will immediately become one of the top industrial destinations within the region.

Located just off of Interstate 95 and west of the city of Dillon in the Northeastern Commerce Center, the Dillon County Spec Building will provide logistical leverage as well as a ready-to-use facility for nearly all forms of industry.

Bill Fleming, the CEO of Marlboro Electric Cooperative said the event is not just a great example of economic development taking charge in the region, but more so of collective cooperation as multiple entities throughout the region came together to make the construction of the building possible.

Today's ribbon cutting is something that weve looked forward to for a long time, Fleming said. It shows that organizations such as Marlboro Electric Cooperative and others can come together and get something done for the community. Now, Dillon County has a premiere facility with great specifications in a great location.

The building, which sits on a Class A industrial site, provides an industrial space that is expandable up to 400,000 square feet.

South Carolina Lt. Gov. John Yancey McGill, chairman of the North Eastern Strategic Alliance (NESA) Executive Committee, said the building will be a great asset to the region and allow for a more comprehensive economic development platform in Dillon County.

It's often said that a high tide raises all ships and that's exactly what's happening with Dillon County and the NESA region, McGill said. This is not just good for Dillon County or anyone within a certain radius of the building. It's good for everyone. Were now able to provide our region and the state with a building that can house an industry with little to no modifications and a speed to market that's nearly unrivaled.

Dillon County Administrator Clay Young said the spec building will provide his county with a unique tool as it markets to potential businesses.

The Dillon County Spec Building will provide our county with something to set us apart from other communities, Young said. The size and customization this building allows for make it one of the top facilities in the state.
