COLUMBIA - NESA holds 2013 legislative reception

COLUMBIA On Tuesday, March 5, the North Eastern Strategic Alliance (NESA), an economic development organization encompassing South Carolina's northeast region, held its 2013 legislative reception in Columbia.

Members of NESA's board, investors, a host of legislators, county developers, administrators, council chair and economic development board chairs, from throughout the NESA region attended the reception.

The event, created to express NESA's appreciation for the legislators; efforts to advance the region's economic development goals and to draw attention to the importance of continued coordination between officials and community leaders, functioned as a forum for legislative leaders to share their prospects for 2013, as well as a review of 2012.

Sen. Yancey McGill, the chairman of the NESA Executive Committee, said he believes 2012 provided the region with a number of successes and even bigger things are on the horizon in 2013.

NESA worked very diligently to bring jobs to our region in 2012, McGill said. I think in 2013, youll see that success replicated and then some; I can say that we in the legislature will do everything in our power to help get South Carolinians back to work.

The legislative reception, an annual NESA event, brought more than 100 attendees from throughout the state.

Jeff McKay, NESA's executive director, said the reception provided an integral opportunity for NESA supporters to interact with their elected leaders in Columbia and coordinate their efforts more effectively.

Regionalism and public-private coordination are vital to successful economic development, McKay said. Im very proud that NESA continues to work closely and effectively with our elected officials to bring jobs to our region.
